The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is one of the most famous American, and indeed Allied, bombers of World War II. It dropped the greatest tonnage of bombs throughout the conflict. Designed in the second half of the 1930s, 12,677 B-17s were built and served in all theaters of operation until 1945.
