Skill level 2. 1971 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am The 1971 Firebird Trans Am was a true enthusiast's performance car. It was loaded with 455 cubic inches of "Poncho-Power" and a wide ratio four-speed transmission. The ominous shaker hood would just sit there and vibrate at idle, but get on a 455 Trans Am, and that shaker hood just rammed air into that thirsty four-barrel carb. This was a machine to be reckoned with, and its striking white and blue paint job was adorned with a front air dam, rear spoiler, fender flares, and air vents that told everyone what a 'Rocket" the Trans Am was. The folks at Pontiac understood performance and it did not take long for the garish Trans Am to surpass the GTO as Pontiac's most potent muscle car.

La Firebird Trans Am de 1971 était une véritable voiture de sport pour les passionnés. Elle était équipée d'un moteur V8 de 7,5 litres (455 ci) et d'une boîte de vitesses à quatre rapports à étagement long. Le capot Shaker, imposant, vibrait au ralenti, mais sur une Trans Am 455, il envoyait l'air directement dans le carburateur quadruple corps. C'était une machine redoutable, et sa peinture blanche et bleue éclatante, ornée d'un aileron avant, d'un becquet arrière, d'élargisseurs d'ailes et de prises d'air, ne laissait aucun doute sur la puissance fulgurante de la Trans Am. Chez Pontiac, on savait ce que signifiait la performance, et il n'a pas fallu longtemps pour que la Trans Am, avec son allure flamboyante, surpasse la GTO et devienne la muscle car la plus puissante de la marque.
