The addition of a third rear axle allowed the Dodge to carry a significant load of equipment or 12 fully equipped soldiers in any condition and operational context. Extremely rugged and reliable thanks to its powerful 92 HP Dodge inline 6-cylinder engine, sturdy chassis, and leaf-spring suspension, it provided an effective solution to the logistical needs of the US Army, even on difficult terrain. The cab was open with a fold-down windshield to offer greater operational flexibility.
