The Panzerkampfwagen V “Panther” was undoubtedly one of the most famous tanks of the Second World War. It was developed as a direct response to the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks, which outclassed the now outdated Panzer III and Panzer IV on the Eastern Front in terms of performance and firepower. Powered by a 700-horsepower Maybach V-12 engine, it was armed with the highly effective high-velocity 75 mm KwK 42 gun, particularly suited for anti-tank use. Thanks to a well-designed layout that optimized protection—through the adoption of sloped frontal armor—mobility, speed, and firepower, the Panther can be considered one of the best tanks of the Second World War. It was employed on all major fronts, from Italy to France to the Eastern Front. The “D” version was the first to enter operational service on the battlefield.

Le Panzerkampfwagen V « Panther » fut sans conteste l'un des chars les plus célèbres de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Développé en réponse directe aux chars soviétiques T-34 et KV-1, il surclassait les Panzer III et Panzer IV, désormais obsolètes, sur le front de l'Est, tant en termes de performances que de puissance de feu. Propulsé par un moteur Maybach V-12 de 700 chevaux, il était armé du canon KwK 42 de 75 mm à haute vélocité, particulièrement efficace et adapté à la lutte antichar. Grâce à une conception ingénieuse optimisant la protection (par l'adoption d'un blindage frontal incliné), la mobilité, la vitesse et la puissance de feu, le Panther peut être considéré comme l'un des meilleurs chars de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il fut engagé sur tous les principaux fronts, de l'Italie à la France en passant par le front de l'Est. La version « D » fut la première à entrer en service opérationnel sur le champ de bataille.
