The Crusader was developed at the beginning of World War II and was one of the most important British "cruiser" tanks.
Over 5000 of them were produced.
Equipped with a Christie suspension and large diameter road wheels, the Crusader had remarkable handling characteristics in rough terrain.
The first Mk. I and Mk. II versions were armed with a 2 pdr. gun, which was later replaced by the more powerful 6 pdr. gun of the Mk.III.
As it was not sufficiently armoured against enemy fire, it was also very vulnerable to enemy mines and anti-tank guns.
Its armament was often inadequate compared to similar German vehicles.
However, when used in a coordinated manner, they could achieve good results.
With the advent of the more powerful Mk. III, the Mk. II Crusaders were already relegated to the second line by the time of the Battle of El Alamein.
Captured vehicles were used in the German 15th Panzer Division and designated "Kreuzer Panzerkampfwagen Mk VI 746(e").

Le Crusader fut développé au début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et fut l'un des chars de croisière britanniques les plus importants.
Plus de 5 000 exemplaires furent produits.
Équipé d'une suspension Christie et de galets de roulement de grand diamètre, le Crusader offrait une maniabilité remarquable en terrain accidenté.
Les premières versions Mk. I et Mk. II étaient armées d'un canon de 2 livres, remplacé ultérieurement par le canon de 6 livres, plus puissant, du Mk. III.
Son blindage étant insuffisant face aux tirs ennemis, il était également très vulnérable aux mines et aux canons antichars.
Son armement était souvent inférieur à celui des véhicules allemands similaires.
Cependant, utilisés de manière coordonnée, ils pouvaient obtenir de bons résultats.
Avec l'arrivée du Mk. III, plus puissant, les Crusader Mk. II furent relégués en seconde ligne dès la bataille d'El Alamein. Les véhicules capturés furent utilisés par la 15e division blindée allemande et désignés « Kreuzer Panzerkampfwagen Mk VI 746(e) ».
