Developed by Higgins Industries of New Orleans on the basis of a flatbottomedboat used in the Louisiana marshlands, the LCVP (Landing Craft,Vehicle and Personnel) took part in all the major amphibious operations ofSecond World War, in Europe and the Pacific. Its task was to shuttle backand forth between the big ships and the beaches, carrying up to thirty men,light vehicles and anything else that was needed. Generally armed with tworear-mounted machine guns, it was powered by a 250 HP Hall Scott petrolengine or a 225 HP Gray diesel engine. After the end of the Second WorldWar the LCVP stayed in service, occupying a number of roles. It saw actionin Korea and Indochina and has also been adapted for civilian use all overthe world.

Développé par Higgins Industries de La Nouvelle-Orléans à partir d'une embarcation à fond plat utilisée dans les marais de Louisiane, le LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle and Personnel) a participé à toutes les grandes opérations amphibies de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, en Europe et dans le Pacifique. Sa mission consistait à assurer la navette entre les grands navires et les plages, transportant jusqu'à trente hommes, des véhicules légers et tout le matériel nécessaire. Généralement armé de deux mitrailleuses à l'arrière, il était propulsé par un moteur à essence Hall Scott de 250 ch ou un moteur diesel Gray de 225 ch. Après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le LCVP est resté en service, remplissant diverses fonctions. Il a été utilisé en Corée et en Indochine et a également été adapté à un usage civil dans le monde entier.
