The T-20 was designed in 1936. They were manufactured during 1937-1941 at Factory no. 37, as well as at STZ and GAZ.
The tractor was designed to tow light artillery pieces such as the 45mm anti-tank gun and the 120mm heavy mortar. The tractor could tow the weapons themselves plus a small quantity of ammunition, usually towed in a limber, along with up to six crewmen. Occasionally, two limbers were towed to increase the ammunition supply.

Le T-20 fut conçu en 1936. Sa production s'étendit de 1937 à 1941 à l'usine n° 37, ainsi qu'aux usines STZ et GAZ.
Ce tracteur était conçu pour tracter des pièces d'artillerie légère telles que le canon antichar de 45 mm et le mortier lourd de 120 mm. Il pouvait tracter les armes elles-mêmes, ainsi qu'une petite quantité de munitions, généralement placées dans un avant-train, et un équipage de six hommes maximum. Occasionnellement, deux avant-trains étaient tractés afin d'augmenter la capacité d'emport de munitions.
