From 1933 onwards, in partnership with the steel industry and alongside other manufacturers such as Adler Werke, Auto Union/Wanderer, Buessing-NAG, Demag, Hansa-Lloyd, Phaenomen, Saurer, and Skoda, Hanomag participated in the rearmament of Germany. The armaments portion of its total business increased from 40% in 1933 to 60% in 1936, while its workforce quadrupled to reach up to 10,000 employees. Production included heavy howitzers, anti-aircraft guns, heavy ammunition, armored military transport and engineering vehicles, and tracked and wheeled combat vehicles (Zugkraftwagen). Hanomag also built under license a light vehicle developed by the manufacturer Stoewer, under the designation E l Pkw/20 B, like BMW-Automobilwerk Eisenach (future BMW) under the reference BMW 325 E l PKW/325.

La production comprenait des obusiers lourds, des canons antiaériens, des munitions lourdes, des véhicules blindés de transport et de génie militaires, ainsi que des véhicules de combat chenillés et à roues (Zugkraftwagen). Hanomag construisit également sous licence un véhicule léger développé par le constructeur Stoewer, sous la désignation E l Pkw/20 B, à l'instar de BMW-Automobilwerk Eisenach (future BMW) sous la référence BMW 325 E l PKW/325.
