The M24 Chaffee was deployed by the British in limited numbers towards the end of World War II, designated as the Light Tank M24. The British Army received a total of around 300 vehicles, most of which arrived in Europe in 1945. Due to its late arrival, the Chaffee saw only limited frontline service and could not fully replace the older M3/M5 Stuart. However, with its 75mm gun, good off-road performance, and significantly improved observation and targeting optics, the M24 represented a major step forward compared to the Stuart. British vehicles were primarily used by reconnaissance and armored units.
After the war, the M24 remained in service with British units for only a short time before being replaced by more modern vehicles.
For modelers, the British M24 is particularly interesting due to its British markings, standard US configuration, and—in some cases—modified radio and antenna equipment.
